Let’s take a closer look at the suburban town of Woodford to see what else this region has in store for residents.
Woodford is situated in East London within the county of Essex. It forms part of Greater London and is an area rich in history. Craftsman, artist and writer William Morris lived at Woodford Hall as a child between 1840 and 1847. The hall was located on Woodford High Road, which is now home to the Woodford Parish Memorial Hall.
Another significant Woodford resident was writer James Hilton. He wrote two of his novels in his Woodford home, located at 42 Oak Hill Gardens, a neighbouring borough of Walthamstow. Woodford also has connections to anti-fascist, peace campaigner and leading suffragette Sylvia Pankhurst. She spent many years as a resident of Charteris Road, close to Woodford tube station. Do you have old but priceless books taking up space in your home? Contact easyStorage for safekeeping. We provide dry, clean and secure self storage units to keep your belongings in the best condition for as long as you need us to.
Travelling in and around Woodford is a pleasant and stress-free experience. The Woodford Tube Station is located just off Snakes Lane West. The stop is in Travelcard Zone 4 and provides convenient services via the central line to Epping, Ealing Broadway, Hainault and West Ruislip. The station is also served by bus routes 275, 549 and W14. The first of these starts in Barkingside, Ilford, and ends at St James’s Street in Chingford. Route 549 begins at Loughton tube station and ends in South Woodford. Finally, route W14 starts in Leyton and terminates at the Woodford Bridge stop.
Woodford is home to many landmarks that attract residents and visitors alike. Redbridge Lakes is found on the other side of the M11, just off Roding Lane North. This fishing and conservation area offers a peaceful afternoon with a nature reserve, cafe and a walking trail. St Mary the Virgin is found in Church Street. It was built in the 12th century and features gothic and byzantine architecture. After being partially destroyed by fires in 1696, the church was rebuilt and then expanded in 1891 to be the building it is today.
Claybury Park, accessible from Regents Drive and Tomswood Hill, offers views of the London city skyline. This open space also has outdoor exercise equipment, walking paths and a children’s playground. Adding to the natural beauty in Woodford is Hatch Forest, which borders the area to the northwest. The River Ching passes through it, leading to Chingford and Epping Forest.
