Hatfield is a town and civil parish in Hertfordshire that falls within the Welwyn Hatfield borough. The town grew as a post-war New Town built almost entirely from scratch after the Second World War to resolve the urgent housing shortage.
As a New Town, Hatfield developed around the historic Hatfield House. The iconic mansion was built in 1611 by Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury and Chief Minister to King James the First.
