Bow is a district situated in the east London borough of Tower Hamlets. It’s located just a few miles from Charing Cross. The name Bow is the shortened version of Stratford-at-Bow, a medieval reference to Bow Bridge. This 12th-century bridge crossed the River Lea between Middlesex and Essex. It was demolished and replaced in 1839.

Bow has a long history with several commemorations around the area. On Bow Road, outside St Mary’s Church is a statue of four-term prime minister, William Ewart Gladstone. On the corner of Harley Grove and Bow Road, a memorial plaque honours George Lansbury, former mayor of Poplar and MP.
