Home Decluttering Ideas

Knowing the struggle, some companies in London started offering services to organise and tidy up one's home. In short, be an aid in home decluttering. But what if you don’t have the budget to get their services? Leaving you to have to do it on your own.

Here, I have listed some creative and resourceful ideas you can follow to make your home decluttering easy and fun.

Bring out the baskets!

Basket is a known tool in decluttering. If you have spare baskets at home, use them as storage. Don't let them sit there empty. Baskets are ideal containers for cosmetics, toiletries or even hand towels in the bathroom. In the living room, you can use baskets to hold magazines, books or remote controls. Baskets can also hold old or seasonal clothes that you don't want to be seen filling your cabinet. You can design these baskets for a more stylish look. But if you are not an artistic kind of person, you can just find baskets in all shapes, sizes, and styles at the nearest home improvement store in your area.

Zazzy zippered pouches

Do you have several pouches left unused for months? Don't worry! Now is the time to utilise them! Assign a zazzy zippered pouch for each of the following items:

• Makeup and cosmetics

•Vitamins, medicines, and first aid essentials

• Office essentials like pens and highlighters

•Chargers, cords, and earphones

Keep them in ottomans

Ottomans are perfect for small apartments as they can be used as sofa and storage at the same time. You can pretty much keep toys, wires, extra blankets or magazines in an ottoman. It serves as an extra seat in the living room or bedroom and can come in a stylish form which can give an aesthetic pleasure in your apartment.

Do it with decorative storage boxes

If you have lots of empty shoeboxes in your home, recycle them and turn them into stylish storage boxes. They are perfect for holding office and school supplies such as post its, stamps, and cards, keeping them more organised and easier to find whenever you need them. They are also ideal for storing cords and wires, remote controls, small to medium-sized electrical and mechanical tools, sewing items, hair styling items, etc.

Hook them up

Disclaimer: This is not the other “hook up” thing.

Hooks are useful in managing "essential clutter" such as jackets, scarves, towels, and bathrobes. Ideally, this should be installed at your house’s entrance for easy access and helps discourage people from putting their jackets or scarves anywhere around the house. You can also put hooks at the back of your bathrooms to hang your wet towels and bathrobes. Hooks also function as key holders.

Renting a storage unit

Renting a storage unit is one great solution for housing less frequently used items but cannot be disposed of. Storage units are also perfect for storing bulky items that are occupying too much space, making your home look smaller and disorganised.

You can also store items like important family memories, extra mattresses or couch, bicycles, sports equipment, seasonal clothes, and books and documents in a storage unit to free up some space in your house. Even those items for donation or garage sale.

If you are thinking about your budget, don't worry! Storage companies offer storage services at affordable rates.

Reduce the clutter! Rent a storage unit!

See? There are many ways to declutter your home. All you have to do is be a little creative to make it a fun activity instead of a burden. Let’s admit it. We cannot eliminate the clutter permanently, but we can at least control and manage them. Decluttering doesn’t need to be stressful.

5 Tips in Creating a Workspace in Your Small Apartment

Dedicating a workspace or a home office should be equally valuable as any part of your apartment whether this is for a remote job or line of work is something that can be done at the comfort of your own home. More often than not, we tend to put this last on our list as sometimes we resort to our bedroom or living room as our go-to workspace. But hey, who doesn’t want working at the comfort of your bed with your PJs on while reviewing your business report? Think again. According to Harvard Business Review’s Guide to Being More Productive, “Unless you are careful to maintain boundaries, you may start to feel like you’re always at work and losing a place to come home to.” Working and sleeping in the same area is not a good idea as you tend to lose your work-life balance, which eventually will lead you to stress and being burnt out from work and feels like you don’t have a life anymore.
