easyStorage Gives The Eco Method A Go

At easyStorage, we are all about delivering an excellent service with a conscience! We’ve been undertaking efforts to become a more sustainable business from our team going out litter picking, to writing well-researched blogs about reusing boxes and tips on making moving green. One way that we can all make a huge difference in our homes and businesses is by looking at our cleaning providers and materials. In no time I’m sure you will realise exactly why we have chosen Eco Method Ltd as our hygiene and soft services provider.

Not only is Chris, Director of Eco Method a very lovely person to meet but he also runs a wonderful business that is all about using “environmentally friendly methods that actually work!” He has helped revolutionise the way we run our workplace here at easyStorage HQ in Uxbridge, Park Royal and Hanger Lane. Now he has shared a few of his top-secret methods with us! And we’ve decided to share them so that our customers can join us in making small changes to clean their homes more sustainably.

Reusable cloths

Wipes have seemingly taken over our lives and our sewers as well as our oceans. The issues with them are that they are often single-use and non-biodegradable. In fact, ITV recently reported that 90% of the 11 billion wipes used in the UK contain plastic. This means that when they do finally break down they turn into microplastics. If you are yet to hear about microplastics, they are contaminating our water sources and food supplies all over the world.

Not only do wet wipes endanger the delicate ecosystems of oceans and rivers but they also cause “93% of blockages in UK sewers.” This can cause many an obvious problem for us all in our homes and businesses, but there is an added risk of health problems caused by these waste blockages. In summary, they aren’t something our teams want to be using at home or within our offices at easyStorage.

Eco Method has a different approach to cleaning surfaces rather than using wipes or standard cloths or mops, then having to throw them away prematurely, they use microfibre items. These are more reliable choices that will last longer and clean better. Then they are laundered in sealed bags that filter micro waste, microfibres made up of microplastics getting into the water system.

Plastic waste

We already know how many problems microplastics are causing within the environment and therefore many are taking measures to reduce single-use plastics. For example, plastic bags in supermarkets used to be free until we saw how much damage they did, there’s also been a huge pushback on using plastic straws. easyStorage also took part in Zero Waste Week this year and tried to cut down on all our plastic waste, so why not look at our cleaning products?

The Eco Method approach is all about cleaning differently. So they eliminated single-use plastics by adopting innovative sachet approaches. A sachet means one can use the exact concentrated amount needed to perform the task at hand without excess waste. Then just add water. If you need to spray surfaces you can just use their reliable long use spray bottles.

Did you know that UK households use over 70 million cleaning sprays every year, which generate more than 140 million pieces of plastic? But with the solutions that Eco Method use: 1 pack of the bathroom cleaner sachets used are approximately equal to twenty 50ml classic plastic trigger sprays. Not only this but the transportation weight of the cleaning supplies also reduces and this helps limit the carbon footprint.

Damaging chemicals

The chemicals used in any of the cleaning products are all biodegradable and phosphate-free. And any chemicals are distributed into sachets which limit chemical overdosing because even gentler chemicals can cause harm. This means we won't overuse and waste products but also this limits chemical exposure for those cleaning as well as those using the surfaces having been cleaned.

Not only do Eco Method ensure protection and care for the environment, but they also select products that will benefit those using them. All their soaps are plant-based, biodegradable and non-carcinogenic that will sanitise hands without causing the skin to become dry or irritated.

Recycled only

Some items need to be used once, think about the paper products such as hand towels, toilet rolls, tissues and then waste bags. Eco method ensures that they only work with suppliers who can provide recycled materials. They also vet every supplier so that they can be sure all the products do not hurt the environment.

Would you believe that even their wet floor signs are made from recycled plastic?!

We leave it to Chris, Director of Eco Method Ltd to sum up their approach: “We are always striving to be at the forefront of new environmentally conscious innovations within the industry. All the little things add up!”

To top all of this, despite inflation and supply shortages, the rates for 2022 are staying the same! And from April 2022 a percentage of the profits from every Eco Method contract will be donated to a charity who puts the environment first.

Eco Method Ltd are a company easyStorage are delighted to be working with, helping to forge a better future together.
