Zero Waste Week? HQ says easy!

This week is Zero Waste week! The week is a global initiative to educate and get consumers and companies thinking differently about waste. It takes place every September and encourages consumers to reduce their waste.

Everyone has heard the term "zero waste" at some point in their life, but what does Zero Waste mean? Zero Waste is a catchy term that describes the entire concept of waste reduction. Zero Waste week's goal is to educate people about the huge amount of waste that we produce on our planet. By reducing our waste (and thus limiting our carbon footprint), we can all feel a little less guilty about our impact on the environment. Zero Waste Week emphasizes recycling, reusing, and purchasing green products to make things better for the future.

Here at easyStorage HQ, we have always been passionate about helping the environment. We do what we can; such as taking part in the Great British Spring Clean the annual event by Keep Britain Tidy. Missed it? Read about it here or watch the video here.

So as part of Zero Waste Week, we are challenging ourselves to reduce our packaging. The usual culprit of unnecessary waste being takeaway coffees and purchased lunches. To get started, we grabbed an easyStorage box to collect all dry packaging. Including plastic bottles, meal deals, and takeaway kebab boxes from our lunch spot around the corner! Then, we popped on a sign to explain the challenge and raise awareness for the event.

Top Tip: we also made it hard to ignore by using our favourite colour (you guessed it, orange!) As well as, positioning it strategically right by the bin and kitchen door!

By doing this, we can see how much waste we create in the office as a whole. This awareness can help us become more conscious consumers; who choose environmentally friendly products without unnecessary packaging.

By wandering around our office, one can spot plenty of multiuse products: reusable bottles; coffee cups; and, of course, mountains of Tupperware. Bringing in reusable products from home may not seem like it would make much of a difference, but over our lives, it adds up. To prove it: we found the statistics. By using a reusable water bottle you could save around 156 single-use plastic bottles every year. Over an average lifetime that equates to roughly 12,636 bottles! Which, to sound like a GCSE maths question, would approximately fill one and a half of our 35 sq ft easyStorage pods. To get more of an idea how big that is you can test it out by trying our storage simulator here.

Reducing our waste and saving the planet is clearly something our team members are thinking about; but, we can do more, so watch this space!
