Wishing our Jewish Colleagues and Customers a Perfect Purim

The Jewish holiday to commemorate being saved from persecution in the ancient Persian Empire is called Purim, and literally means ‘lots’, explaining why this festival is also sometimes called ‘The Feast of Lots’. In 2023 it falls on March 6/7.

Of all of the Jewish holidays, this one encourages people to have unfettered fun, to dress up in silly costumes, eat, drink and be merry!

For Purim, Jews exchange gifts and make donations to the poor, giving money or food to at least two needy people during the daylight hours of Purim (March 7). And, of course, feast. Traditional fare includes three-cornered pastries called ‘hamantaschen’ or ‘oznei Haman’. Purim plays add to the carnival atmosphere as does dressing up – especially for the children.

People send packages containing at least two different items of food or drink to a fellow Jewish acquaintance. Men send to men,  women send to women and traditionally these gifts are sent by a third party rather than in person. Often it’s the children who do the delivery, strengthening their community connections and having fun in the process.

Visits to the Synagogue to hear Purim readings are important, ideally twice during the day, but reading at home or at work are just as important. When Haman’s name is mentioned (the villain of this important piece of Jewish history), the congregation twirl ‘graggers’ (noisemakers) or stamp their feet to symbolically eradicate the evil name.

And then the feasting begins! Traditionally, just before sundown , families and guests join together to celebrate with a festive Purim meal. A festive table – don’t forget the candles – features bread, meat and wine.  Jewish songs are sung, words of Torah are recited (albeit not always in any traditional manner!) and lots of fun is had!

At easyStorage we’d like to wish everyone a fabulous celebration.

And when the party ends, and the costumes, the candlesticks, the tableware and more are put away, we’re here with any extra space you may need, at around half the price of traditional self storage: https://www.easystorage.com/

Time to think about the boat shed?

As yachts and bats of all types are making their final trips of the year, we’re all thinking about getting the boats out of the water and onto stands. After getting the boat up onto its hard standing and cleaning its underbelly ready for winter, winterising the engine and systems, there are the sails, any deck furniture and all the things inside to think about.
