Tidy outside as well as in

The Great British Spring Clean is an annual initiative organized by Keep Britain Tidy, aiming to clean one million miles of the UK. The initiative aims is to cut litter, end waste, and improve public places. As we regularly talk about decluttering and spring cleaning inside, it seemed the least we could do for our local community to pop a few hours in for the cause. And for ourselves – it’s great to get to know other parts of the easyStorage team that we wouldn’t necessarily get to know well.

Our head office is at Hanger Lane on the North Circular Road, and the area really needed and deserved a good cleaning session. So, six of the HQ office team donned their easyStorage orange tops and protective gloves on  Wednesday 9 June,  grabbed their bin bags and set out into the sunshine litter picking.

The team is not only feeling good about having done something for the community. At time of writing, the total miles pledged for cleaning were: 1,159,046. Their work has helped Keep Britain Tidy smash its target!

Volunteering like this for Keep Britain Tidy has helped us AND our local environment. In just over an hour, each of us had filled more than two bags of rubbish each. This included the weird, the wonderful and the downright yuck things that people discard, unthinkingly and sometimes unknowingly.

One thing that struck us was the number of discarded masks, something we wouldn’t have seen in previous years. If you’re using a mask, please look after it. They can harm wildlife (animals get entangled), affect river users and exacerbate plastic pollution.

There are, of course, always people to thank when a group initiative like this comes together.

We’d like to thank our Partnerships Manager, Irene Kapetanaki for organising the litter pick; to say thank you to easyStorage senior managers for encouraging this kind of activity and giving the team time out during working hours to volunteer.

And, of course, we want to say well done to Keep Britain Tidy for providing the inspiration. You can see the resultant video below.

Enjoy!
