The Real Cost of easyStorage!

For most people, the price of a self storage unit will probably be the biggest factor in choosing the place to store your belongings. At easyStorage we understand that, and our storage costs around half what traditional self storage would cost.

As a rough guide, according to the SSA (Self Storage Association) UK annual industry report 2021, the average rental cost of self-storage is £23.94 per square foot per year. However, these are national averages and don’t factor in quality of provider, VAT or insurance. Self-storage prices tend to vary far more than this implies:

1) Location, location, location

Generally, the closer a storage unit is to a city centre, the higher cost of the building to the storage provider, which will reflect in their prices to customers. In London, for example, prices are likely to be far higher than in the North of England or Scotland, whilst West Midlands tends to be cheaper.

2) Size of the unit

Storage space is normally charged by the square foot (Sq. ft) and many storage facilities will have different size units available to rent. (The easyStorage model is per easyPod, and our teams help you make the most of the space by packing them well, and can even load for you if required. We even provide a space calculator)

3) Length of stay

How long you stay or plan on staying will often affect how much the storage will cost you. Watch out for special offers, which may offer you extremely cheap or free storage for a month or even three. Many of these offers then tie you in to a long-term contract. This is fine if you know what the prices will rise to, and you do want that long term storage. Our advice is always to check what you’re committing to and understand the service and its restrictions/benefits before booking.

4) Available discounts

Some storage providers, including easyStorage, offer special discounts to NHS workers, and to forces personnel and emergency workers via the Blue Light Card.

Cheapest or best?

We’re huge believers in cost not sacrificing quality, but know that price matters. The cheapest storage facility is not always the best, although we believe we’re competitive!

Considerations include:

·         Location, including how much you genuinely need to access your belongings, and parking

·       Security, and how many people have access to the unit

·         Insurance

·         Moving costs: who collects and delivers belongings, and the associated costs like van hire

·         Who packs belongings

·         Quality of the storage unit and how dry your belongings will be

·         Hidden charges

·         Costs of incidentals such as access passes, padlocks etc

·         Deposits

·         Flexibility

·         Available equipment in traditional storage units (like trolleys, which you don’t need with easyStorage)

easyStorage does a lot of the legwork for customers by collecting and returning goods, but also, if required, loading and packing. It’s this business model that keeps its costs low and belongings safe.

We had our first job booked and we getting ready to take the van out ourselves and do the first easyStorage job. We named our first van after that customer and learnt a lot.
