Sleeptember: Six Secrets for a Better Sleep

Sleep is a serious issue, controlling our mood, our health and our effectiveness at daily tasks. And as it’s #Sleeptember, it’s a great time to take a look at some ways to ensure a good night’s sleep

We scoured the Sleep Charity’s advice for achieving good sleep, and it became clear that something we are good at – decluttering – can help greatly.

1.       Switch off the screens

Clear your bedroom, which should be reserved only for sex and sleep, of computers and televisions.

If you need advice on creating and office space to place computers and papers, this article may help: Setting up a home office

2.       Blackout blinds and curtains

If your room is dark, you will sleep better. That can’t happen if you can’t get to the curtains because they are hooked over things, or can’t get to them because things are lying around. Declutter!

3.       Check your mattress

If you sleep better somewhere else – like a hotel – than at home, it may be that your mattress needs changing.

Of course it could be that the hotel room is clean and has less clutter. Decluttering may prove to be a cheaper, easier or more effective investment. If that fails, try the mattress change. Or be daring and do both!

4.       Repaint with calming, restful colours

Homes and Gardens have some ideas about what those calming colours might be> Summed up, it depends on you: What are the Most Relaxing Colours?

This may help make the painting easy: The Secrets to an Easy Home Renovation

5.       Make it Beautiful

Make space for things that relax you – reed diffusers, personal photos with happy memories/associations, relaxing artwork, plants and flowers.

Again, we may be able to help with a little advice: Bringing the Outdoors in with Plants

(Note that reed diffusers should not be used during pregnancy)

6.       Move the Clock

If the ticking of the clock keeps you awake, remove it completely. If you’re prone to watch it when you wake up, move it to where you can’t. And don’t plug your phone in near the bed, or you’ll look at that instead. (Plus it creates light - see (1) above)

Don’t forget that easyStorage is here to help with any of your storage needs while you declutter and rearrange your home. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by the prices. Call 0333 241 3137 for a no obligation quote.

5 Tips in Creating a Workspace in Your Small Apartment

Dedicating a workspace or a home office should be equally valuable as any part of your apartment whether this is for a remote job or line of work is something that can be done at the comfort of your own home. More often than not, we tend to put this last on our list as sometimes we resort to our bedroom or living room as our go-to workspace. But hey, who doesn’t want working at the comfort of your bed with your PJs on while reviewing your business report? Think again. According to Harvard Business Review’s Guide to Being More Productive, “Unless you are careful to maintain boundaries, you may start to feel like you’re always at work and losing a place to come home to.” Working and sleeping in the same area is not a good idea as you tend to lose your work-life balance, which eventually will lead you to stress and being burnt out from work and feels like you don’t have a life anymore.
