Organising Baby’s Room: Ten Handy Hacks

Having a new arrival is both exciting and exhausting, and between guides letting you know the million and one things you never knew you needed, and well-wishers bringing gifts that you definitely don’t, keeping a nursery tidy and organised can feel overwhelming.

So we went in search of some expert advice, and summarised our findings into ten handy hacks:

1.      Doubling up a dresser or chest of drawers

You can use it as a changing table. Just remember: safety first! Put a changing mat on top of the dresser, and the drawers can be used for storing baby’s things – baby clothes, nappies, baby wipes, and more. Just remember to have a space that has immediate supplies like wipes, disposal bags, fresh nappies etc close to hand.

2.     Drawer Organisers

They help make it easy to find what you're looking for, and help you group ‘types’ of things together (babygrows, soothers, toys, etc) Babies clothes are small, so they’re ideal.

3.      Shelving

Enough said?

4.      Hooks

They are great for hanging clothes, travel bags, storage bags and more.

5.      Independent (loose) storage

Baskets, pretty boxes, storage boxes, an ottoman, even moveable children’s storage trolleys or collapsible bags.

6.      Bins

Yes, bins are important for rubbish, but pretty bins can also make solid storage places, ideal for soft toys or plastic playthings.

7.      Double up on hangers

If you have a baby wardrobe, things can often be hung together on a hanger – for example babygrows can be draped over rather than hung individually. You get the idea! You can even reuse your easyStorage moving boxes to make your own sustainable hangers.

8.      Laundry bags/bin/box

Do these really need to be in baby’s room, or is there one in, say, the bathroom that can be shared?

9.      Use the space under the cot.

You can always add a ‘skirt’ if it looks untidy.

10.    Use those walls

A hanging shoe rack, for example, with pockets is great for all kinds of storage.

Don’t forget, in the midst of trying to find space, to ensure that adults have somewhere to sit with baby when nursing, feeding or just enjoying a quiet cuddle, especially important in case of illness. Because a well-timed cuddle can be worth more than a million baby gadgets or toys.

easyStorage Joins the NAFD

easyStorage has joined the National Association of Funeral Directors as a supplier member (and we got a shout-out in their monthly magazine too!). It was natural for easyStorage to join the Association, considering that a number of our customers put belongings into safe keeping after a death, either whilst probate is being resolved or properties are being sold, giving families and friends a breathing space to focus on the important things first.
