November Jobs for Lifestyle Storers

November. Darker nights and Christmas racing towards us at full speed. Whether you’re a stalwart partygoer or staying in by the fire, whether you’re a ‘Christmas starts early in our house’ or a ‘Christmas starts a week before and ends before New Year’, here are a few helpful nudges for our ‘Lifestyle Storers’ regarding what might go into and out of storage this month.

We can no longer hide from it. Despite the fact that we’re all feeling the pinch, the stores are all full of goodies and Christmas is upon us!

Christmas preparations: Decluttering to make room

Lifestyle storers will want a massive declutter and move out one or two things into storage to make space for Christmas decorations and Christmas guests.

Some of our previous blog posts may help inspire you with the decluttering:

·         Ten tips on the way to Decluttering Nirvana (with a hat tip to Marie Kondo, of course)

·         Home decluttering ideas

·         Swedish Death Cleaning (A lot less gruesome than the name implies!)

With all of us feeling the pinch, keep an eye out on our blog for some tips on which sites are out there to sell on your preloved things that you are not putting into storage.

Christmas preparations: Decorations

And of course, the end of the month is time for many to get out their Christmas decorations, test the fairy lights’ bulbs, dust down the tinsel, wipe over the table decorations and generally prepare. (Some prefer to wait until two weeks before Christmas to put up those decorations – your Christmas, your choice!)

Of course, if you’re simply pragmatic about things and want to limit yourself to one storage run only this month, you may prefer to wait until your Black Friday goodies have arrived. (Yes, that annual money saving ‘spendfest’ is upon us on Friday November 25.)

Christmas preparations: Hiding the presents

Where better to hide those presents from the prodders and the shakers than in your storage unit?

Left over Fireworks

Fireworks should never be held in a self-storage unit.

There is some sound advice on their proper storage here: How to store your fireworks at home safely and legally.

easyStorage: How to Use Self-Storage during Retirement

Retirement must be the pot of gold waiting at the end of the rainbow for every hardworking person who spent almost all their life working to earn a living. All of us will come to a point where we need to end our career phase and enjoy the golden years of retirement. People have different approaches when it comes to retirement. 5 Tips in Creating a Workspace in Your Small Apartment

Dedicating a workspace or a home office should be equally valuable as any part of your apartment whether this is for a remote job or line of work is something that can be done at the comfort of your own home. More often than not, we tend to put this last on our list as sometimes we resort to our bedroom or living room as our go-to workspace. But hey, who doesn’t want working at the comfort of your bed with your PJs on while reviewing your business report? Think again. According to Harvard Business Review’s Guide to Being More Productive, “Unless you are careful to maintain boundaries, you may start to feel like you’re always at work and losing a place to come home to.” Working and sleeping in the same area is not a good idea as you tend to lose your work-life balance, which eventually will lead you to stress and being burnt out from work and feels like you don’t have a life anymore.
