Insuring Goods Held By easyStorage

easyStorage takes every care to protect your goods, but we have negotiated what we believe is a great deal on our customers’ behalf – great quality at a reasonable price. (It’s underwritten by the Lonham Group Limited, specialists in cargo and freight insurance, for those who like the detail.)

As with everything we do, we try to make insuring easy. We’ll talk you through things, of course, and you should check the details of any insurance to reassure yourself that you’re covered, but this should give you an overview.

Making insurance easy

To be covered, all you have to do is to accept our quotation form, checking that you have a correct valuation for your goods. The cover provided is on an indemnity basis (not “new for old”) which means that you must declare the value of your goods for their used value, taking into account their current condition and age. Once you sign the document and pay, what you sign becomes your confirmation. We will help you as much as we can with this process, and we help with inventory when you leave goods with us anyway, so life is a lot easier in terms of proving what was being stored.

The insurance cover includes physical loss or damage to your goods whilst in our care. (Obviously cover stops as soon as your goods are delivered back to you.)

What won’t be covered

The few things that aren’t covered include electrical, electronic or mechanical items that stop working unless they are also physically damaged.

There are also some things we wouldn’t accept for storage, and these aren’t covered by the insurance either. These include anything living things (plants or animals), vehicles and tyres, liquids (including toiletries, cosmetics or perfumes), food or perishables, and hazardous materials like gas, explosives, chemicals, radioactive or toxic materials, or anything containing asbestos. These exclusions help keep everyone using easyStorage, and their goods, safe.

And no, of course we won’t store guns, drugs or dead bodies. Sorry!

High-value items like jewellery, watches, precious stones, precious metals, money, coins, bullion, deeds, bonds, securities and stamps of all kinds may need insuring separately.  (If you’ve robbed a bank, you may be on your own when it comes to insurance!)

Making claims as easy as possible

If any problem were to arise, we hope we’ve made things as simple as possible. Just report any loss or damage to us at easyStorage as soon as possible, within seven days of taking delivery. We’ll issue you with a claim form to complete and return. We send it on to the insurance folk on your behalf, who promise that your claim will be dealt with as quickly as possible.

Obviously, honesty is the best policy for getting your claim approved, and it’s far faster if you only claim for things that are covered, are realistic about the amounts you’re claiming, and help us out with repair estimates, evidence of original/replacement purchase price and photographs of any damage.

And a final note of reassurance: our insurers are backed by Lloyd’s of London, which belongs to the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). That means that if our insurers couldn’t fulfil their financial obligation to pay your valid claim you would almost certainly be entitled to compensation.

We’ve done our best to make it easy!
