How To Make The Most Of Your Storage Unit?

Being a long-term storage customer, I learned how to maximise the space in my unit. It's just in the packing and organisation. And since I'm not selfish, I will share it with you. I create a list of top, and of course, easy tips you can do to maximise the space in your storage unit.

So, here you go.

1. Use boxes

Use boxes for standard packing, especially for smaller items like picture frames, figurines, books, etc.

Make sure you have different sizes of boxes to cater to various items you wish to store.

Fill every box to its maximum capacity, but with care, of course. Don't let your items get damaged. And don't leave any hollow space. If you can fit more shirts to that box, why not?

Boxes create uniformity. And since there is uniformity, it's a lot easier to arrange your items in your storage unit. Just stack and pile, stack and pile.

2. Utilise the vertical space

Assuming you follow the first easy tip, the next thing you can do is to stack the boxes vertically. Put the heavier and bigger boxes at the bottom to create a solid foundation.

This way, you can maximise the space from the ground to the ceiling. You'll have more room for other items like cabinets, disassembled bikes or furniture, camping tent or exercise equipment.

3. Manage spare cords and cables properly

Do you wish to store away those tangled cables seen everywhere in your apartment but don't know if they can still fit in your storage unit?

Think no more. Gather them up. Get gear ties/cable ties, toilet paper rolls, and a medium-sized box. Arrange/fold these spare cords and cables in the same fashion and secure them using ties. Use toilet paper rolls to hold them together. Put them inside the medium-sized box you've got, preferably in an upright position. And voila! An instant cable organizer. You can just put this box - cable organizer - anywhere in your storage unit. It won't take up too much space. You surely will have space for other things you wish to keep in the storage.

A box is a nicer view than tangled cables around your storage.

4. Dismantle large furniture

Furniture like chairs and tables, when stored as-is, will surely occupy space. You don't want to rent a unit that can house only a few large items. To get the most of your storage unit, dismantle large items and put them in boxes. You don't only save space, you also make a solid base for your storage unit. On top of these boxes, you can put lighter objects or those you might need frequently.

5. Don't leave hollow spaces

If you will store items like cabinets, suitcases, bins or kitchen containers, use them to house smaller stuff like frames, souvenirs, toys, hangers, clothes, etc. Don't store air. Fill every space.
