How do I Sell My Items? | Ask The easyStorage Experts

Dear easyStorage
You often write about selling things on when you write about decluttering. But when I’ve tried it’s been a lot of work and I’ve ended up taking stuff off sale and giving it away.
How do I sell my items? For years I have spent loads on making our home beautiful, but right now we’re flat broke and every penny will help.
Steffi, Durham

Thanks for your question Steffi.

You’re far from alone in feeling the pinch right now, and when we talked about what’s involved, we came to the conclusion that there’s not just one easy answer, sadly.

A lot of the success will depend on your wording and your photos, but just as important is the site you choose to sell on.

Fortunately, people are coming around to the idea of ‘vintage’ and pre-loved’ rather than ‘second hand’ and are waking up to how much ‘greener’ and more ethical it is to buy good quality preloved goods than to buy cheap fast fashion items – clothes or home.

This, combined with the fact that all of us are trying to make the same - or less - money go further now faced with a higher cost of living, means that it’s a good time to be selling on good quality items (or passing them on to upcyclers to give them a new life).

Your question gave rise to a whole lot more: which sites should I sell on and how do they work? How can I get the best price – and how do I even know what price to put on? What about the pictures.

It’s been very easy for us to say ‘sell things’, but your question stopped us in our tracks. We have decided that over the next few weeks we’ll create a series, one that looks at the best places to sell specific items, how to do it, what commission, if any, you’ll pay and how to make the best of your listing.

So keep an eye on our blog where we’ll be looking at all of these things in a bit more depth.

At easyStorage we’re all about helping our customers, and constantly improving our services. So we can’t thank you enough for the question. We’re off sharing our experiences and knowledge and researching the many sites to give you the answers you deserve.

Our guides should help narrow down sellers' options to just a few useful sites - some are free, some charge commission, some ask for advertising, and others demand a membership. And help with the wording and pictures.

And of course if you need to declutter and/or make more space but can’t bear to part with things that have given you joy, we’re always here with a cost effective self storage solution - we even collect your goods and drop them back. You can discuss your storage needs with one of our professionals, free, on 0800 061 4091.

5 Tips in Creating a Workspace in Your Small Apartment

Dedicating a workspace or a home office should be equally valuable as any part of your apartment whether this is for a remote job or line of work is something that can be done at the comfort of your own home. More often than not, we tend to put this last on our list as sometimes we resort to our bedroom or living room as our go-to workspace. But hey, who doesn’t want working at the comfort of your bed with your PJs on while reviewing your business report? Think again. According to Harvard Business Review’s Guide to Being More Productive, “Unless you are careful to maintain boundaries, you may start to feel like you’re always at work and losing a place to come home to.” Working and sleeping in the same area is not a good idea as you tend to lose your work-life balance, which eventually will lead you to stress and being burnt out from work and feels like you don’t have a life anymore.
