Five ways that self-storage could make an unusual Father’s Day Gift

Socks. Ties. Aftershave that sits on the shelf until it loses its smell (or worse). Father’s Day presents a dilemma. So here are five ways that self-storage might prove to be a really thoughtful, much appreciated gift.

Garage or Shed Clear Out

With the best will in the World, garages and sheds become dumping grounds for all sorts. Whilst not strictly a male preserve, of course, many Dads can’t get at their toolboxes or gardening implements with ease thanks to all the unused furniture, suitcases, stored memorabilia and ‘maybe we’ll use it one day’ things that accumulate.

Why not offer Dad a day of your time to help sort it? Don’t forget that friends and charity shops may love the better quality things that you don’t want, the local dump is there for disposing of big bits that can’t be reused, Freecycle may have a crafter who can turn that holey old wheelbarrow with deflated wheels into a plant pot….

And for what you want to keep but don’t use often, there’s self-storage.

Seasonal declutter

Once upon a yesteryear, Dad’s wardrobe was a pair of cords, a suit for best, some shirts, and odd tie and some casual tops. Dads in 2021 are as likely as Mums to have fully stuffed wardrobes with both winter and summer clothes vying for space.

And then there’s the Christmas decorations in the bottom of the wardrobe, and maybe even an artificial Christmas tree.

If Dad’s a sportsman, there may even be seasonal sports gear put away at various out of season times.

How much space could be created for Dad by using self-storage for out of season ‘stuff?

Hoarded Treasures

True, it’s ‘Not All Dads’, but some are hoarders.

Whether it’s back copies of ‘Angling Times’ or a refusal to part with back issues of childhood Beano’s, school prizes from way back when, or those trophies for ‘Star Player’ on the ‘B’ team for football, Dads are often way more sentimental than they let on.

Or maybe they have mounds of team or music memorabilia.

However, if those things never get looked at, or only rarely aired, how much better would it be to have them safely stored, maybe rotating what’s on show or reviewed once every six months?

Out of sight doesn’t have to be out of mind, and having just one or two things out rather than whole piles that are never looked at, may well suit both Dad and anyone he lives with!

Winterised Goodies (Or Summerised Ones!)

If Dad has a boat that’s winterised, a bike that goes away for the winter https://www.easystorage.com/blog/preparing-your-bike-for-storage  or a caravan that’s locked up out of season https://www.easystorage.com/blog/winterising-your-caravan, storage can be a perfect solution.

Of course, if Dad’s a winter sports fan and wants to tuck away that bulky ski or tobogganing gear, of course now’s the time to be storing it all away safely.

How much better would it be to store it all in a warm, dry self-storage unit than a damp space where spiders and mice love to make their homes, given half a chance?

General Decluttering

If Dad’s home is full of ‘bits, or messy, why not help him declutter as a fabulous Father’s Day gift.

If you need tips, we recently hosted a blog from a decluttering specialist: https://www.easystorage.com/blog/declutter-your-life-to-destress-but-what-happens-next

And since decluttering can also help de-stress, it’s a double gift!

If you would like a no-obligation quote for self-storage, our online calculator is available 24/7: https://book.easystorage.com/

With prices at around half the price of traditional self-storage, your Father’s Day present could be a lot more economical than you imagine.
