City Life: How to Maximise Your Small Space

You’ve headed for the bright lights, big city, because, let’s face it, that’s where the work is. And spaces in cities are small and expensive.

easyStorage is here to help make the most of that space! Cheaper than you’d expect (around half the price of traditional self-storage), with a little planning the small extra cost of storage can make a large difference to your space.

And here are just six of the many ways to make life ‘bigger’ in a small space:

1.       Landlord’s Nasties

As a tenant you can’t just dispose of that huge monstrous piece of furniture in the living room or the old cocktail cabinet that’s been broken for more years than it was ever in service.  But you CAN  put it into storage until the end of your tenancy, protecting your landlord’ possessions and your sanity!

2.       Seasonal clothes

Through the summer months you don’t necessarily want huge overcoats and woolly sweaters, and in the winter you don’t need your summer sandals or beachwear (unless you’re brave enough to risk booking a holiday in the hopes that COVID will allow it to go ahead)

Out of season clothes can be packed away into self-storage until you’re ready to swap them over again. We created a short blog, Putting summer things into winter storage, that may be useful.

3.       Once a Year Goodies

Hallowe’en costumes and paraphernalia. Artificial Christmas trees and Christmas decorations. Throwing away and buying new each year is not only expensive but an environmental nightmare, and if, like me, there are some bits you keep for sentimental reasons (Baby’s artwork, and the first Christmas bits they made, for example), throwing them out just isn’t an option. This where self storage is invaluable, keeping everything safe and ready for when you need it.

4.       Rotating furnishings

In the summer you want the lightest of colours and things around you. In the winter plush velvets, throws and cushions make a home feel welcoming. Even if it’s only the cushions you swap around, by storing your favourite pieces you’re not committed to a single décor ‘look’ forever if you use self storage to keep what’s not in use out of the way.

Similarly you may want lighter quilts in summer than in winter; or to put away garden/balcony furniture in winter to keep it in good condition;

5.       Keepsakes

Old photo albums. Children’s first booties. Programmes from favourite theatre productions. Collectors cards. The china set you were given for your wedding but no longer use. Whatever it is that has a sentimental hold on you can take up vital space in a small home, and leave you feeling cluttered.

By using self storage to keep them, they can be out of sight until you want to bring them out and show them off.

6.       Radiators and Fans

Both fans and radiators which work from electric sockets can be put away when not needed. Self storage can help when you want to swap one for the other.

For a no-obligation quote, 24/7, our website has a handy calculator – and can even calculate how much space you’ll need.

Like it says on the ‘can’ or van in our case, easyStorage works to make things easy, even picking up and dropping off your belongings, storing safely and helping pack and load if required.
