Cheap Storage Hacks: How To Store On A Budget

As a self storage customer, I have learned a lot from my experiences. I have tried both short-term and long-term plans. But guess what, here's what I discovered. Whether you're a short-term or long-term storage customer, you can always choose to store on a budget. How? Take a look at these easy tips.

1. Book the smallest storage unit you can get away with

Do not overestimate when choosing the storage unit size you need to house your belongings. Go for the smallest unit you can get away with. To maximise the space and to make sure everything fits in, use boxes in packing your items. You don't have to buy a new set of boxes. You can reuse the old ones. Boxes can be stacked from the ground up to the ceiling. This way, you can utilise the vertical space in your storage unit.

Also, you can use hollow spaces to house smaller items. For example, if you are going to include your spare cabinet or suitcase to the items you wish to store away, you might as well put toys, clothes, books or kitchen utensils in it. Don't let any hollow left unfilled!

Reminder: Make sure to follow the correct packing guidelines, especially for kitchen utensils, to avoid damage.

2.  Store with friends or family members

When renting a storage unit, remove your idea of exclusivity.

If you are storing just a few items, it's better to make arrangements with your family or friends. Ask them to store with you. It's fine to share your storage unit space, you will also share in paying the rent. You won't be using the space anyway.

3. Avail of discounts and promos

Included in almost every list of tips to cut on cost --- discounts and promos. Don't forget to check the offers. Each storage company has its range of discounts, special promotions, and plans.

For example, we at easyStorage, we give a £1 first-month storage offer that is valid for first-time customers with a minimum of eight-week storage plan. We also offer free pick up and delivery for some cost-effective storage plans and packages. You will not only save your money, but you will also save your time and energy.

Maximise your opportunity to save.

4. Don't pay for amenities and insurances if you don't need them

If you don't want to avail of an insurance package, then don't. Look for storage companies with insurance options. Those that will not force you to pay for something you don't need or want.

If you don't need to store your items in a climate-controlled facility, then don't. Look for storage companies with units that are not climate-controlled. It is usually cheaper.

5. Maximise the space in your storage unit

How? Just be more organised. Use boxes or bins to pack your things. Pack the same items together. Disassemble large items. Get rid of the items you won't be using anymore.

Easy, isn't it?

Why consider a small space rather than the big ones?

With everything becoming expensive nowadays, it is very important to become more resourceful, efficient, and practical, especially with your spending attitude. We don’t want to end up being tied up in debts just to keep with our wants over our needs. A shelter (house, studio, apartment, etc.), for example, is considered as a need for a person to survive. It’s only fair that we spend a chunk of our budget on it but it doesn’t mean we should get spaces that are beyond our budget capability. There are lots of available "small" spaces that are within our budget and can still sustain our need for shelter. We only have to be creative in maximising these spaces.
